Vocal Course Lesson 8

Overview"what this lesson is about"

Blending Chest Voice and Head Voice II

Eliminate the Bulges in Your Vocal Range

Breaks in the voice usually happen because the vocal cords can’t take the pressure we send them. Look for places in your range where you experience a build up of volume and pressure. Often the notes just above this “Bulge” will be where your voice breaks. Work on decreasing pressure and tension in these areas and see if you can find a better transition into head voice as a result.

Here are some more things we can review that will help you sing with a strong mix voice:

Work with Scale 10 with Eh, and remind yourself of these principles

Lesson 1: Keep your mouth open and relaxed
Lesson 2: Keep your vocal cords engaged
Lesson 3: Keep your larynx low
Lesson 4: Keep your pharynx active
Lesson 5: Relax your jaw and neck

Keep an Even Volume Through Your Vocal Range

Breaks in the voice usually happen because the vocal cords can’t take the pressure we send them. Look for places in your range where you experience a build up of volume and pressure. Relax Your Tongue

Check out your tongue in the mirror. Your tongue should be soft and dome like, not shriveling up and pulling back. Practice Scale 9 and keep an eye on your tongue. Look for tension and work on relaxing it.

Practice Routine

Practice Time : 7 days, 15 – 30 minutes

Practice Scale 9 with these sounds, working on your blend of chest voice and head voice:

• Aye Aye
• Mum Mum
• Wee Wee
• No No

Look for places where your voice “Bulges” out and gets louder, followed by a break. Try to eliminate the Bulge by singing with less pressure and tension.
