Lesson Nine

Introduction

In this week’s lesson we will be playing ‘Humpty Dumpty’, not an easy melody! But let’s not forget about this week’s Ziggys Top Tip!

Ziggy's Top Tip...

Timing / Rhythm

When we play music often we count to 4 over and over, 1 2 3 4 - 1 2 3 4, this is called the timing or rhythm of a song. When we count to 4 over and over it is called 4/4 time in musical terms. All of the songs we have been learning so far have been 4/4 time.

However we don’t always count to 4 and in this week’s song we will be counting to 3 over and over again, 1 2 3 1 2 3. When we count to 3 over and over it is called 3/4 time in musical terms.

Changing the way we count or the rhythm of a song will give it a different feel and make you want to move or dance to it in a different way.

Things to think about:

• You are counting to 3 over and over when you are playing the song and exercise
• Notice the difference between the 4/4 songs learnt so far and this ¾ songs

So let give this week’s exercise and tune a go! And don’t forget this week’s top tip from Ziggy!

So go for it, Let’s Play Guitar!
