Bass Lesson Six - Fretting

Fretting Hand Finger Placement

It’s important to position the finger in the correct way within each fret space. This will prevent unwanted fret buzz noises and allow notes to ring out clearly. The finger should be position close to but not on the fret. Also the least amount of pressure is required to press the string in this position. When the finger is in position on the fret board it is important to avoid pulling and bending the string. This will alter the pitch of the note that is being produced.

The finger tips are also likely to hurt at first but thicker skin calluses will soon develop making playing much more comfortable.
