The ‘Rock Star Academy’ children’s guitar lessons are especially designed to be a fun and easy way for young beginner guitarists to start playing!
Hello my name is Ziggy.
I am going to help you learn to play guitar. With my “Top Tips” you will be playing in no time.
Let’s get started and have some fun ……
How do we know what order to play notes so we can play some tunes?
- We use Guitar Tab!
The lines running across represent the guitar strings, the thinnest string at the top, and the thickest at the bottom.
The numbers that appear on the string let you know which fret to press. You then follow the notes in sequence from left to right.
So for example if there is a 1 you place your finger just before the first fret.
The frets are the thin metal bars that run along the guitar neck. If you move your finger between frets and pluck the string, the sound will change.
To make it easier to remember which fret to press each number is coloured.
Black- Open (press no fret)
Green- 1st Fret
Red- 2nd Fret
Yellow- 3rd Fret
Blue- 4th Fret
Orange- 5th Fret
• The correct string is being plucked
• The correct fret is being pressed
• Notes are being played in the correct order
You’re now ready to give it a go!
First you need practice playing the exercise and then move onto playing ‘Twinkle Twinkle Little Star’. The exercises in each lesson use the notes in the song and help you get ready for playing it.
So let’s get your fingers moving, and let’s Play Guitar!
Keep on practicing this weeks exercise and tune. If you try them each day your hands will grow stronger and it gets easier and easier! You'll then be ready for your next lesson.
